Reading: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
...I'm nervous to start a new class for the spring semester. Walking into a classroom for the first time not knowing anybody makes my stomach turn. I get over it but thinking about it the days before are the worst.
...I'm amused that my Facebook profile has gone from being an online presence to let my old high school classmates know I'm not dead, to being the place where I can be friends with and communicate with my church pastors and professors alike. I can stay in touch with my BFFs that live across the country and talk about arranging music with one of my professors. I never thought I'd say it but Facebook makes me warm inside.
...I can't stop thinking about the funniest thing my boss said over the speakerbox at work: "Thanks for choosing Tim Hortons, would you like to try a chicken?"
...I have a crush on someone.

Todd Oldham, is the creative director of Old Navy. I didn't know that. Now I know why I like Old Navy again like it's a high school reunion with an old favorite brand. My $400 credit card bill seems to make it obvious...
I recently joined my church's worship band after expressing interest in being a backup vocalist. I ended up playing keyboard this past friday night at church after doing a quick run through of the songs a couple hours before. Everyone who heard me play said I did great. Phew! I was afraid I made too many noticeable mistakes. I'm quite surprised and impressed that I was able to pick up these songs as quickly as I did. Honestly, the songs are simple enough and chord playing is really easy for me, so that's the reason why it wasn't very difficult to play.
I think as long as I'm allowed to take turns with the original keyboardist I'd like to continue playing just to give myself more practice on the piano. I'll leave the singing to the others. I like how things are going right now.
I have a final exam on the topic of Mozart in a half hour. Getting back to studying, then band practice tonight...
Two weeks ago I caught an episode of Pushing Daisies. It was like watching a Columbo murder mystery cross-bred with a Doctor Seuss book. I'm hoping I will remember to catch it again this wednesday because wednesday seems to be the only free night I have now.
I went to the Amanda Palmer show at Toad's Place with my friend Danielle and met her nice friend Jake. I had a good time for the most part, aside from getting felt up by a slightly overweight guy wearing a Batman mask. After Danielle pulled me closer to her, Batman guy moved forward and started a fight with another Batman guy. Then Amanda Palmer's girl-in-charge broke up the fight and threatened to throw them out if they didn't stop. That was crazy. What was crazier is that soon after the concert ended around midnight, a Yale dance party began. In the middle of the week? Aren't they supposed to be studying?
Anyways, Amanda was totally cool, sang some songs from her newest album, and was really nice to Danielle when she met her so it was definitely worth going. Even though it was standing room only, I still got to stand about 10 feet away from her and the Danger Ensemble did some creative moves during some of her songs. I was especially entertained with the Umbrella performance.
I'm going to a Christmas party for my job and I offered to bring pumpkin cheesecake and mini cupcakes. I made this double layer pumpkin cheesecake for some holiday at my house a few years ago and it was delicious. I'm also on a cupcake kick. The white cake cupcakes with strawberry frosting and pieces of blueberries and strawberries on top that I made for a baby shower were a hit so I'd like to create something else for the Christmas party. I ended up buying a mini cupcake pan so I'm going to use it as much as I can.
I'm really excited, I found out I am eligible to get free voice lessons through the music department so I set up my first lesson this thursday. I have to figure out what I want to work on. Something operatic, definitely. I'm so excited I haven't had lessons in 7 years so it's going to be great. I know i'm not going to be told that I suck, but I wish I did so I have something to work on. oh well. i'm still excited.
I forgot I was supposed to be writing a paper on Mozart AND OMG I HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. BYE.
So I'm attending a show at the famed Toad's Place in New Haven tonight with my friend Danielle. We're seeing one of Danielle's most favorite-est musicians, Amanda Palmer, one half of the punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. Amanda Palmer's released a solo album and she's currently on tour for the album.
I was really confused figuring out how to dress for the show. I'm not familiar with the kind of audience that Amanda and The Dresden Dolls draw so I wanted to be able to fit in per say, without having to look like I'm blatantly out of place. Because I belong! I'm a fan! I just don't know who her other fans are and I don't want to show up looking like an asian schoolgirl walking into an American prison... for lack of a better example...
I'm hoping that the outfit I'm wearing won't make me a poser by high school standards, but more fitting into the setting of a bar scene, I guess. I'm not one to chase all of the latest trends except that my style combines elements of different styles and eras and locations and I try to make it look fabulous. So I'm crossing my fingers that I look semi-decent or else Amanda Palmer will punch me in the head and Danielle will pretend she doesn't know me.
I'll take pictures! I know how to use my camera phone now!
xoxo
So my ongoing disappointment with fashion in southeastern Connecticut continues. I was excited to find out about the recent collaboration of Comme des Garcons with H&M and that they released the exclusive line to all stores worldwide last thursday. Deep inside I knew that I probably wouldn't see any items from the line at the H&M store at my nearby mall but I still ventured out there to check it out. I was right.
I still didn't walk out of there empty-handed, mind you. I bought a pair of black flats for only $5.
This is the second time I've been let down in anticipation for new clothing lines. Last year around this time I was expecting to see a new Go International line to debut at my local Target but the store was terribly late in premiering the next line. They've reduced the Go International setup to two small racks now. The Converse fixture is bigger. I've resorted to taking mini road trips to other Targets just to check out their selection.
Moral of the story: I'm still going to have to wait a little bit longer.
November 13th: H&M/Comme des Garcons Collaboration to hit US stores
Christmas: Thakoon for Target collection
March 2009: Steve McQueen collaborating with Target
Late 2009: Coco Avant Chanel featuring Audrey Tatou hits theaters
Good find: Etsy store Pudge
So I sent away for some random free samples of products...

I'm registered to vote. So in typical college student fashion, I'm procrastinating on doing my research on the presidential candidates. All worries aside, I will make an informed decision on election day. :)
