On saturday I thought I was utterly stupid to offer to hang out with my boyfriend after I'd spent the afternoon at an agricultural fair. Note the word "agricultural," meaning I hung out with sheep and cows, among other farm animals. As I was driving to his place I realized that I must smell like I just stepped off a farm. That's not cute, right? Right. After I screamed and called myself an idiot for not going home to take a shower I remembered I kept a bunch of "just in case" items in my glovebox which included a travel pack of Wet Ones Moist Wipes. These are a lifesaver! Five minutes before seeing my boy I took a few sheets to wipe down my feet, ankles, and arms. I also wiped down my sandals because they were covered in dirt and most likely cow poo. Not only did I clean up my dirty feet, I think I was able to take the smell away too. It was like a shower in the form of a small package of wet naps. Score.
I've realized that since I wear jeans practically everyday of my casually dressed life, it makes sense to spend good money on quality pairs of jeans. If I want jeans to last at least 5 years, I need to buy a pair that fits and is made to last. I don't do the already distressed and man-made rips and tears jeans either.
It's difficult to find jeans that fit me perfectly and are at a price I'm willing to pay. I'm cheap. Up until now the only racks I was willing to browse are at off-price stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls and the selections aren't that great to begin with when you're searching for a pair that needs to be something other than "average."
When searching for the right pair, I need to find my waist size, a sensible "rise," as well as the word "SHORT" written all over it. Just to make me more disappointed that I am vertically challenged. I've gotten by most of the time by finding the right waist and rise but for average height, then bringing my jeans to get hemmed for cheap by an older asian lady*. I can't stand letting my jeans drag on the ground and then fraying because it's messy looking.
In my planner I compiled a list of clothing brands and what size I fit into for their tops and jeans. My size is different for so many labels. I get frustrated when I try on something new and find out that their sizes run smaller that I thought. I end up crying in the dressing room and leaving the store empty-handed with lower self-confidence than I went in with. Weren't the lighting and 360 degree mirrors bad enough?! This is why I only go jeans shopping once every five years.
But this week I was determined! I marched my way into Kohl's, growled at the Levi's display because all the sizes and styles were mixed up which forced me to actually put some effort into finding a pair, then picked up two pairs of size 5 SHORT boot cut 518 jeans in two different rinses (dark and medium) and tried them on in the dressing room. After I got over my short anxiety attack of fear of impending doom that the jeans will not fit and regretting having lived the last 20 minutes of my life.
BOTH OF THEM FIT. PRAISE JESUS BECAUSE HE SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURERS AT LEVI.
I bought one of the pairs because that one was on sale for $29. I wore it out to dinner with my boyfriend tonight and boy did my butt look good.
I love Levis jeans. I think I'll be buying more now that I know what size I wear. Yeah boy!

I stumbled onto a whole new facet of the internet this weekend: fashion blogs. Up until recently I've only frequented The Sartorialist and other blogs for Lucky Magazine, Elle, and Vogue. Not only are there blogs discussing the latest news and covering couture weeks, there are blogs by girls my age who show the various outfits they wear everyday. These are the girls that if I bumped into any one of them somewhere around town, I'd be complimenting them about everything they're wearing: their bag, their shoes, their blouse, whatever. BECAUSE THEY'RE FABULOUS AND I WANT THEM TO KNOW IT. I'm hooked and now I'm living vicariously through their closets. I'm green with envy. If my wardrobe were as wonderful as theirs I'd be taking lots of pictures of my outfits too! Shoot... So girls, you go with your bad selves.
- Eleh at Come thrifting with me - I love all her vintage handbags
- Endorfina at Brown eyed girl - I especially like her use of scarves
- Anne & Annie at Things We Wore - these two should be stylists for the rest of California.
- Rumi at Fashion Toast - She rocks vintage and heels hardcore.
- Emma at Emma's Closet - for some reason I think European ladies look so chic in leather jackets, while in America they only look appropriate on Harley Davidson riders. :(
- Chic Closet
- Sandy at Sandypandycandy - I <3 her hair

Wikipedia has a list of musical terminology for those of you who read music but don't know how to read the directions on tempo or dynamics and other such markings in a score that are in a language other than english. It's very helpful. Click here.

All Things Considered, October 23, 2007 · A new computer program promises to make music lessons more fun for kids. But some people are skeptical that a virtual teacher can do for kids what a real teacher can.
With "smartmusic," students can play their flutes or clarinets into microphones attached to their computers, and the program can direct them, listen to their pitch and correct them as they go.
Students say the real-time feedback on the screen makes practice much less boring — and more like playing a computer game.

Zac Posen teamed up with DHL to design a tote bag with all proceeds going to Teachers Count. In all leather, the bag is red and yellow and is big enough to fit magazines and your necessities. Quantities are limited. Bags are $400 each. If you can afford it, please support the teachers.
Is it just me, or is the Zac Posen/fashion and DHL pairing so random?
